The Early Stages…
In 1961, Bryce
D. Jewett, Sr. followed the dream that many people have and
opened his own machine shop. He built a 4000 square foot building
at the corner of 29th and Maury Streets in Richmond, VA. He
used family labor to build the foundation - his teenage son
Bryce, Jr., nicknamed “Skillett” (origin not disclosed).
Over the next two decades
Bryce Sr. became known for two things: the quality of the
products he manufactured and the fair way he treated people,
both customers and employees.
The Next Generation…
The business
culture Bryce, Sr. fostered in the early years remains at
the core of the business today although much has changed.
“Skillett” grew up in the business and took control in 1981.
The plant has expanded twice at its original site and has
purchased additional space several blocks away. While Jewett
still has a full complement of conventional equipment, state-of-the-art
CNC equipment takes up most of the plant’s floor space. JEWETT Automation provides high tech solutions to custom
factory automation.
But the culture is still
the same: commitment to quality in all work, and fairness
to all people. Each employee is given every opportunity to
achieve his or her full potential, and customers know they
are important. “Skillett’s” door is always open to both.
